The Friends of Barnabas Foundation (FOB) is a faith-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization based in Midlothian, Virginia. The mission of Friends of Barnabas is to improve the lives of Honduran children by providing high quality sustainable medical care and enabling communities to become self-sufficient through health-related training and education.
Growing from a small group of people traveling to Honduras once a year, FOB now implements year-round programs in Honduras that address a wide spectrum of health care needs, from community based programs to system wide endeavors.
FOB’s programs come directly from our mission. Improving the lives of children means that children deserve a healthy start with a strong support system. To accomplish these goals, FOB offers:
1. The Community Health Development Program, providing health care services for those without access to such care through volunteer medical teams, providing general medical care, dental care, vision care, anti-parasite clinics, and referrals for children with special needs; preventive health education to children, teens, mothers and fathers in 25 partner communities, selected based on need and willingness of communities to participate in FOB’s program; and capacity-building workshops for local community health volunteers led by FOB staff and volunteers, equipping children and their caregivers with the skills and resources required to become self-sufficient.
2. An unprecedented Extended Care Program for children with special or congenital medical needs, providing medication, examinations, and continuing case management for children and their families.
3. Surgical programs including Little Hearts Project, a pediatric cardiac surgical program in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
