Collecting, preserving and interpreting Richmond’s 400-year history for over a century. Located in the heart of historic downtown, the Valentine is a place for residents and tourists to discover the diverse stories that tell the broader history of this important region.

A comprehensive program of exhibitions, tours, special events, research opportunities, school programs and other public programs engage the broadest audience in an ongoing dialogue about the significance and relevance of the city’s history.

Show some love to our Historic Hometown of RVA! Virginia is known for being the “Birthplace of the Nation”. It was St. Johns Church in Richmond that held the Virginia Convention that would ultimately lead to American Independence. You remember Patrick Henry, Right? Of course, but there is so much more to learn. Richmond is filled with history, and people who love it. Like the folks over at The Valentine they enjoy seeing you come in eager to fall in love with this city more than you already do.

A trip to The Valentine is a great date idea, especially for those looking to do something meaningful and give back to their community. You’ll find it is near some of RVA’s greatest food spots and with your RVA Card you can #ShowAndSave What’s better than supporting local? Supporting local twice!

From now until September 5th, the work of nationally-known Richmond photographer Alyssa C. Salomon, examines the resurging practice of keeping backyard chickens and how our relationship with food sources continues to evolve. A Chicken in Every Plot includes portraits of Richmond-area urban and suburban chickens and the yards in which they thrive, an homage to the quintessential deviled egg, plus household objects and historic photographs from the Valentine’s collection.

St Baldricks "St Paddy's Palooza" March 12th @Innsbrook Pavilion

Sign up now to show your support!

Every 3 minutes, a child is starting the battle against cancer.

1 in 285 children will be diagnosed by the age of 20.

Even though these numbers are significantly high, the rate at which we are able to save them is increasing, from the 1950’s, when nearly every child diagnosed with cancer died. Now is the time, to push for more support by reaching out to friends, family, and co-workers about the St Paddy’s Palooza on March 12th at the Innsbrook Pavilion to benefit the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation funds childhood cancer research through head-shaving events, partnerships or advocacy initiatives.  By getting involved, you are not only fueling research to cure cancer, you are also fueling research to improve supportive care for patients. During the battle, kids can face very uncomfortable and sometimes life-threatening side effects from treatments.

St. Baldrick’s directs the funds raised by its volunteers to the most promising and carefully selected research grants and it is their primary focus to create the largest impact on childhood cancer around the world.

Consider getting involved, we need Donations, volunteers, head shavers and Shavees. Help us get the word out about this event and together we can make an impact on the fight to #ConquerKidsCancer

Over the last 5 years, the events in Innsbrook, coordinated by local volunteer Kevin Smith, have raised over $180,000 for childhood cancer research.  The family-friendly, and free, festival plans to have live music, vendors, food trucks, Irish dancing, a petting zoo, and so much more entertainment.

At the heart of the event is St. Baldrick‘s signature head-shaving event.  Volunteers of all ages and both sexes sign up to shave their heads in solidarity with children who typically lose their hair during cancer treatment.

The volunteers help by (1) raising money for childhood cancer research and (2) by showing kids its okay to be bald
